I love paintings of interiors.  It seems as if I’m a voyeur into the lives of other people when I look at them. There is something very intimate into looking into the lives of others.  There is often a softness of light and reflected light in the paintings as well as well as an intimacy of seeing how they lived.  John Singer Sargent was famous for his interiors.  The British artist Ken Howard is a contemporary artist whom I admire.  His studio paintings are awesome.

This is a painting I’ve been contemplating for a few years.  It is of my roll-top desk as seen through the doorway from the living room.  I’ve always loved the way the morning light slants in through the windows.  It reminds me of mornings at my grandmother’s house.  Something about the light.  I’m sure other artists understand but it is difficult to explain.

I started off with a reddish under painting and build out from there.  With all of the windows, there are many different light sources which I hope I have captured.

There was actually a chair in the bottom right hand corner but I decided a plant would be better.  The first one looks like a green spider so I had to work on that one a bit more.

Overall, I think the final painting was pretty satisfactory.
